Ok, so you're thinking "No one understands what I'm going through! The doctors are all idiots! I don't know if I can stand how I'm feeling for one more second! I need to read a book??? The only thing that's gonna help me is a morphine drip!!" Alright then, just chill for a second, will ya, and check out the above five books that were written by this fantastic doctor, Mark J. Pellegrino, M.D., who has fibromyalgia himself! Stop yer whining and pick up one of these great books with resources and help on just about anything to do with FMS. A recent publication is The Fibromyalgia Supporter. Does your loved one have Fibromyalgia? Then this book is for you! Dr. Pellegrino has done it again, this time writing a book for our supporters and partners, in his own inimitable thoughtful and humorous style. A nice gift for anyone who loves someone with Fibromyalgia. (Even if they look at you funny and say "gee, hon, yeah...um...well, thanks a lot", trust me, they actually will appreciate it.) Also, new is The Fibromyalgia Chef.

And spanking, brand new for 2001 is Inside Fibromyalgia, a very comprehensive, big book. This one really covers it all with unique chapters such as "The Fibromyalgia Worker", "Fibronomics", "The Fibromyalgia Traveler", and "Prognosis in Fibromyalgia". Dr. Pellegrino really delves into fibromyalgia and picks it apart from every angle. An excellent first book to choose if you're looking to really get "inside" fibromyalgia and learn. Newest to me is this wonderful book Taking Charge of Fibromyalgia - Everything You Need to Know to Manage Fibromyalgia, by Julie Kelly, M.S., R.N. and Rosalie Devonshire, M.S.W, LCSW, "two health professionals who live successfully with fibromyalgia". I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! First, it's always such a validating experience to read a book about FMS by people who actually have and are experiencing this illness. This adds so much to a book, this personal touch, this intense caring for others with this illness that comes across as you're reading. The Reseach section is particularly good, and also I found a lot of new information on our sleep disorder and many other myriad facets of FMS. The Appendix: Physician Protocols is EXCELLENT - read here about all the wonderful research the docs are FINALLY doing, how to deal with your physicians, and what treatments are working now. It's November 2005 as I'm writing this and I'm thinking, what a wonderful holiday gift, or gift for any time of the year, for a fibro patient or loved one of a fibro patient! Thank you Julie and Rosalie for this beautiful book! One of my favorite words is HOPE, and I love that you seem to like this word too.

Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome: A Survivor Manual, Second Edition, by Devin J. Starlanyl, M.D. and Mary Ellen Copeland, M.D., M.A.. New Harbinger Publishing, Oakland, CA, 2001 Tel: 800-748-6273 This book is a must have especially if you have the "double whammy" of FMS/CMP. For $19.95 you will get such invaluable information that I literally have not found anywhere else. It really is a guide for living with FMS/CMP, in all aspects of life. It also includes current research info and especially good insights into dealing with your medical team so that you can familiarize yourself with your illness and talk with your doctors in an informed manner. I call this book my FMS bible. A really big book well worth over twice the price!
